Agri-Culture is inspired by the sights, textures, and experiences of Oakland’s Produce and Waterfront District, which centres around the wholesale market, Broadway, and the Oakland Inner Harbour. The project aims to create a vibrant, cohesive neighbourhood that serves as an interactive hub for residents and visitors while preserving the site’s history and culture.
The predominantly Asian and Hispanic owners and workers of the wholesale market inspired the concept of “Agri-Culture.” Reflecting Oakland’s diverse identity, the warm, lively colour schemes of the modular buildings draw from the market’s produce and Asian and Hispanic cuisines, creating an earthy, welcoming atmosphere. Agri-Culture embodies cultural diversity, serving both locals and visitors alike.
