By 2035, 100% of new cars sold in California will be zero-emission vehicles, causing gasoline stations to be gradually replaced by new programs and tenants.
The location for Urban Jungle Roastery is the former gas station at 1298 Valencia Street, placing it at the intersection of the neighbourhood’s two main lifelines: Valencia Street and 24th Street. The new building is intended to be a centre for social interaction, offering visitors—whether individuals or larger groups—a place to meet, socialise, write, converse, or simply pass the time while charging their electric vehicles over a cup of coffee.
This design proposal for Urban Jungle Roastery integrates meaningful green space into its architectural design, creating an “urban jungle” where all visitors can reconnect with nature through a shared experience. There are important synergies between the programs offered at this Urban Jungle Roastery, and this proposal seeks to highlight them by introducing on-site recycling and renewal processes.
